Meet Joy McRoy:
My
Story:
Joy grew up in eastern North Carolina and has always had an interest in working with dogs. She fell in love with German Shepherds at an early age and over the years that love has only deepened. She became introduced to Search and Rescue K9s in 2017 after joining Chocowinity Search and Rescue, and certified with her first dog in 2019 in tracking/trailing. Since then Joy has been on numerous searches for missing people, and has worked around many SAR K9s of various breeds.
She has worked hard to learn as much as possible about SAR k9s and their training, and how to recognize problem areas. Although no longer on the Chocowinity Search and Rescue Team, Joy stays involved in the SAR community by passing on her experiences and knowledge regarding SAR k9s.
Joy currently resides in Chocowinity on a farm where she raises cattle and horses. Joy is also the handler to a German Shepherd tracking/trailing K9 named Sirko; a Belgian Malinois human remains detection K9 named Cairo; a Belgian Malinois Arson Detection K9 named Jedi; and her newest German Shepherd Gambit who is in training as a bedbug detection K9. She is currently working to develop a Belgian Malinois as a Green Police Dog Prospect named Kiva.
**Joy is also a AKC Good Citizenship Certifier.
